Zooerastia, Blowhard, Fat and Madmen gig recordings in the early 90’s

I found a Zooerastia and Blowhard tape snapped in the middle, got out the screwdrivers and patched it back together. The gig would have been a Wordfest in King George Square in Brisbane in about 1993.

Zooerastia had Vik Pingle on vocals, Quan Yoeman from Regurgitator on guitar, Derek Ives on drums and Mat Wilkie on bass.

Mat plays bass and drums in Cal Crilly Collective and bass in the bogan rock legends OK Cowboys when they do the odd gig, he cooked at Little Larder in New farm as another career moment (:

Derek Ives sadly died from illness in 2016 and was probably well known for being in The Rock N Roll Circus, you can find a lot of posts about Derek at this remembrance link.

Vik does nice art and photos in Tasmania.

Blowhard did an acoustic set after Zooerastia, it’s a nice short set to hear.

Rollo the singer was a pivotal part of the Brisbane music scene setting up Splurt gigs and releases for all types of bands for around 28 years before he passed away in 2019.

The whole Blowhard collection has been archived here on Bandcamp.

Blowhard acoustic set Wordfest in King George Square, Brisbane 1993?

UK Subs were the first band I ever saw in London with Anti-Pasti in 1980, a Blowhard support was brill.

This is an interview with Blowhard at their practice room by Heather Anderson possibly in 1989.

There was a lot of practice room racket but it should be listenable and needs a language warning (:

Blowhard interview 1989?

These are 3 songs recorded in the practice room after the interview.

I left a Rollo playlist here, hours worth.

I used to do the door and make flyers for the Treasury Hotel gigs from 1991 for a few years and thought I had a 1991 Blowhard gig on a tape with the bands FAT and Madmen. Blowhard wasn’t on the tape.

The FAT gig is a good chunk of music though, there must have been a dodgy cable on my very dodgy cassette recording set up so there are some small pieces are inexpertly snipped out of both FAT and Madmen.

Hopefully only the bad members notice and no one will care anyway, great racket.

I don’t have the flyer or date for this.

FAT is still going strong 31 years later, find them on this Facey link, and Bandcamp releases.

FAT at the Beetle Bar 15.11.15 This is a nice view from the Beetle Bar balcony for 27 minutes.

Madmen who later became Screamfeeder were on the gig with FAT and Blowhard so it was nice to find a tape. Screamfeeder are doing a tour in June 2022. Follow any gigs here.

Unfortunately it well clicked and popped mid way through the 6th song but this is a great sample of Tim Steward’s songs years back just before Screamfeeder, again I snipped the odd section out, so if something sounds weird it was better than a drop out or popping or not at all. Great tunes.

Madmen at The Treasury Hotel 1991

One of their videos is here. Some good Brisbane flashbacks.

I’ve left about 40 Brisbane bands from the 90’s here, with a couple of touring bands like Propaghandi and Warp Spasm and the tail end of the 80’s with Act and Post No Bills.

Brisbane bands in the 90’s.

Have fun.
